Thank you to everyone who pitched in and volunteered, and to everyone who enjoyed an evening of dining to benefit Madison Starlings!
Mike Jolly was a dear friend and supporter of Starlings Madison. Mike was a coach for Madison Starlings in 2016-2017 and was our tournament Director in 2018. Mike passed away just after Christmas in 2021.
Thanks to Dan Richke of Madison Turner's, a long-time friend and mutual player and lover of volleyball, Madison Starlings was the beneficiary of fundraising at some adult tournaments dedicated to Coach Jolly. As a result, Madison Starlings was able to hold its first summer league for Starlings players- The Mike Jolly Legacy League. Madison Turner's was Mike's volleyball home, and his friends there have placed a memorial at Turner's to remember the man who expanded volleyball, literally the venue, in Madison.
Over 40 youth participated in practices held once a week in 2022, thanks to Richke's fundraising efforts. Madison Starlings trained our 17-18 team players to lead drills to begin the practices, providing the young adult players an opportunity to earn a stipend while developing coaching skills.
This program is planned to continue next summer, 2023. A legacy of Mike Jolly, Dan Richke, and his friends at Madison Turners.
