Starlings Volleyball USA Announces Executive Director, Lucy Pinney is stepping down

San Diego, California (December, 2021) - Starlings Volleyball, USA announced that Executive Director Lucy Pinney will step down from her position as Executive Director. Pinney will remain the Executive Director until a new one is named. Operations will continue as planned in 2022, including the addition of 13 new Starlings programs. 

The Board of Directors will begin its search for a new Executive Director immediately.  

Pinney has served as Starlings Executive Director since October 2018. In that time, Starlings has made essential improvements to its operating structure, fundraising strategies, outreach to at-risk girls and has forged corporate partnerships that put the organization in a strong position for growth. Notable accomplishments during Pinney’s tenure include:

  • 116% increase in Starlings club programs nationwide.

  • Partnership with Adidas, which provided the biggest corporate support package in the organization's 25-year history.

  • Organized an annual Starlings Directors’ Conference.

  • Provided the first ever Starlings College Showcase for Starlings student-athletes interested in playing collegiate volleyball, footage of which was streamed to interested college coaches.

  • Created the Sister Club Team and Sister College programs.

  • Directed the Starlings National Tournament twice that included 600-1200 Starlings players from all over the country.

  • Created an operating manual with step-by-step guidelines on a wide range of club procedures, including Starlings club rules, new club affiliation policies, and a parent/player handbook.

Pinney, who spent her career as a non-profit consultant and founded the Montana Volleyball Academy before joining Starlings, said, “Over the last three years we have been able to build an impactful, unique and life-changing organization, affecting and saving the lives of young, at-risk girls, while empowering the coaches and directors who serve them. We have made many great new friends and established vital and intimate partnerships throughout the volleyball industry. Starlings is an organization that is respected and sought out for its leadership. I am proud of the work accomplished.”
