coaching Director spreading
the Coaching Word
Tod
Mattox, Starlings National Coaching Director, has been busy working with coaches
across the country. Recently, Tod visited Portland, Los Angeles,
Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and Boston.
This photo was taken when Tod visited the coaches from the
Baltimore club.
Asked about his trips, Tod said: "The opportunity to travel
to the different Starlings cities and observe the coaches' and players' passion
first hand has been a wonderful experience. I can't wait to see the groups when
they come to San Diego for Nationals in June!"
Kim Oden Gives Clinic to
Oakland Starlings
On August 16, former Olympian and Starlings co-founder, Kim Oden (currently assistant coach at
Stanford University), conducted a clinic for Starlings players at St. Elizabeth High School in
Oakland. A special treat for the girls was the attendance of four Stanford varsity players who
assisted Kim.

Olympian and "First Lady" of Starlings,

Special thanks to Starlings Director in Oakland, Lee Wagner, for organizing the event as well as to
Roy Ching, Director of Club Kalani, who helped make the clinic possible. Lastly, a word of
appreciation to Lee's daughter, Asha (former Cal Poly San Luis Obisbo star and Starlings coach),
who took time off from fighting fires in Northern California to coach the girls.
Word was the girls had a great time and learned a bunch.
Here are some photos of the event:

Is that a
"triangle" or a "window"? asks a Stanford expert?
(Starlings
practice the setting position.)

Kim gets them
moving by running some drills.
